Aquafest’s Tennis Tournament
returnsfor third time
JOURNAL STAFF
Reviving an old favorite, this year marks
the third tennis tournament forAquafest
since 2009.
All tournament matches are played
at the LSHS courts which were recently
resurfaced.
“I think everyone's going to really like
the new surface.” said Tournament Di—
rector Ion Brady. "We’ve restarted this
tournament under the concept as a ‘com—
munity tournament.”
“The goal is to get everyone who'would
like to have some fun and can hit a ball
to come out and enjoy the weather and
competition." The tournament will be
run mostly according to US. Tennis As-
sociation rules with some adjustments
as the tournament is targeted less for the
serious player.
“That’s not to say that we don’t have
some serious tournament players enter-
ing," said Brady. “Only that it’s not a USTA
sanctioned event which means you don’t
have to be a extremely formal. We get a lot
Of kids from the local high school teams
entering the events which is great."
The tournament offers a double elimi-
nation format with trophies for the win—
ners. All proceeds from the tournament
are donated to the LSHS Girls and Boys
Tennis programs.
Entries close Saturday, July 16.
